Noe Quezada Olivas is Juan Quezada's eldest son and, as such, is the heir apparent to his father. In the early 1990s he developed a style of painting unique among the potters of Mata Ortiz. He used the same long sweeping arcs and bands as his father, but within those bands he painted tiny checks and dots that give the designs a "computer board" look. Noe used to enjoy making fish frogs, owls and human effigy pots with his distinct painting emblazoned across their surfaces, but he seldom makes them today. His recent work looks more like his father's, utilizing the minimalist style of painting with more open space on the pottery surface. Noe and his wife, Betty Quintana de Quezada, live along the Palanganas River in Barrio Central.
Made by the traditional pinch and pull method of Mata Ortiz potters, without the use of a potter's wheel this large piece is has soft white and grey decorations on a black background. The patterns on this plate are fine cuter tape designs forming the well-known Quezada band. All Mata Ortiz pottery is made in the traditional ways and is fired outdoors.
